About the Combined Major, Business and Computer Science

While information analysis and information technology (IT) become more crucial in any business or industry, companies invest enormous amounts of capital on projects or products that do not deliver satisfactory results. Often, projects are challenged, delayed, or failed due to the lack of communication between developers and business stakeholders.

Business and Computer Science (BUCS) plays the vital role of bridging the gap between developers and stakeholders. Students who complete the program will gain exposure in both the technical and business halves of the IT world. From programming, algorithm design, and software development, to project management, systems analysis, and database management; students will establish career paths that are both technical and/or business-related.

The Sauder School of Business and the Department of Computer Science at UBC is currently offering a unique Bachelor of Commerce program: A Bachelor degree in Commerce majoring in Business and Computer Science. Here is an excerpt from the Sauder School of Business:

A new program was approved by Senate on April 19, 2006: the Bachelor of Commerce with a combined major in Business and Computer Science. This combined program is jointly offered by the Department of Computer Science and the Sauder School of Business. There is a growing demand for graduates who have strong a foundation in both computer science and business. The program is designed particularly for students who wish to combine studies in Business, Information Management Systems, and Computer Science. It will be ideal for students who would like to lead IT related projects or advance in higher management positions in IT related companies.
