About the Competitions

CASEIT (February 14-17 Vancouver) -
CaseIT is an annual international undergraduate business case competition with a strong Management Information Systems (MIS) focus designed to find the best and brightest in strategic IT case analysis. It is a forum where students from various backgrounds of IT and business can showcase their skills in areas such as teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking to a panel of industry professionals.

Take any major business situation: should our company enter a new market? Should we build or buy our next ERP system? Now add a large amount of ambiguity and start a countdown timer with a matter of hours to go. In that time, you and a couple of colleagues have to come up with a concise, comprehensive, logical, and polished presentation to a group of executives, people who will drill you with questions both big and small. I’ve just described a typical case competition. But, it also describes a day in the life of a leader in business. Whether a case competition or in your career, you won’t have all the facts you need. You should exercise keen judgement. You must “think on your feet”. Most importantly, you and your colleagues must work together closely and help one another out in a fast-paced, pressure-cooker environment. The value of case competitions is as a microcosm of the situations and decisions you will face throughout your business career. If you can master a case comp, you are well on the way to being a successful business leader. – Competition team organizer, Ron Cenfetelli

APEX (May 2017 Singapore) -
APEX Business-IT Global Case Challenge is an annual case competition that highlights the intertwined nature of business and IT. This challenge is hosted and supported by the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University (SMU). Since its inception in 2009, APEX Business-IT has risen to achieve the status as a premier global case competition with a holistic experience offered throughout the four-day event. In APEX Business-IT, we pride ourselves on giving you the opportunity to explore, inspire, and network.

Case competitions provide a unique opportunity for students to apply key elements from their academic education and life experiences and to apply them in real-world business simulations.  While there is no single “perfect” profile for case competition team members, there are a few essential attributes that individuals on leading teams possess.
